Heath Ledger to play Rock Hudson?

ledger Heath Ledger is in negotiations to take on another big gay movie role that isn't entirely clear cut. The Brokeback Mountain star who earned himself a Best Actor Oscar nomination is currently the frontrunner to play Hollywood icon and rather legendary closet case Rock Hudson who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1985. According to Aint it Cool News, a major movie spoiler site, an inside source said, "After playing a straight man who has a gay relationship, Heath Ledger will do a 180 and play a gay man who has a straight relationship." His next role is playing a heroin addict in Neil Armfield's "Candy." The film is based on a Luke Davies novel.

A straight man in a gay relationship? What movie was that? It sure wasn't Brokeback Mountain.

His performance in Brokeback Mountain was fantastic and just because this movie would again feature a gay character, well hey cudos to him he seems to a gifted actor who can adhere to a role quite easily. Wonder if Hollywood has ever touched Rock Hudson in another movie venture?

Now that a European (male) homosexual love story has gained Oscar status it makes me wonder when America will be ready, willing and able to watch two African American macho men in love on the big screen. According to white Hollywood producers, white Americans don’t flock to the theaters to see two African Americans straight or gay on the big screen. Black people as a whole will not support a black male homosexual love story. Bringing two African American men to the big screen that are in love would be the litmus test for the hypocrisy that surrounds homosexuality. The pathetic contradiction is that it has absolutely nothing to do with sin and everything to do with personal prejudice.

Heterosexuals are no strangers to sin. African Americans will run to the theater to see any of the seven deadly sins played out on the big screen. But homosexuality is the subject people love to hate. Heterosexuals love fornication; watching it and doing it. According to the Bible, sex before marriage is a sin, but nobody cares unless it’s two men “getting busy.” The list is endless when it comes to what sins black people are willing to accept. The fact that people are willing to watch someone killed in cold blood, horror movies, or rape vs. watching two men in LOVE speaks volumes. It would behoove African Americans to acknowledge this bogus double standard and stop threatening gay men with the wrath of God.

God doesn’t want to be feared, he wants to be loved. I love God and He loves me. Fear is and has been used for centuries as a control mechanism in religion. Don’t believe the holy heterosexual hype. The reality is sinners use the Bible to denounce homosexuality. The Bible didn’t create man, man created the Bible. God and homosexuality existed long before 1611 when King James put his stamp on the Bible. Yet, there was no mention of homosexuality in his early editions. History suggests that King James was indeed gay himself and he was commonly referred to as “Queen” James. If a homosexual can be “inspired” by God to create the Bible, then homosexuality is good enough for me.

Besides, homosexuality does not compare to murder, greed or eating pork, other sins mentioned in the Bible. This is the same Bible that helped to subjugate women. There was a time not too long ago when women couldn’t vote or own property. It’s really not about homophobia it’s more about peniaphobia (fear of poverty). The powers that be want to maintain their supreme status at all cost. While Black folk are busy damning fags to hell, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Simply put, it’s divide and conquer. But narrow minded folk are unable to see this because God, Religion and the Bible are being used as a smoke screen.

When the smoke clears people will begin to understand homosexuality is not an aberration, it’s the norm for homosexuals. Even when I abstain from sex, I’m still a homo. Even if I have sex with a woman, I’m still a homo or at least bisexual. God can’t erase this because He does not make mistakes. I chose spiritual freedom over religious persecution from people who sin on daily basis from the pews to the pulpit. To condemn someone for being who they are is the greatest sin of all.

The irony is the oppressed have become the oppressors. As a black man, I have the right to compare my struggle to the civil rights movement. I have dark skin, thick lips, kinky hair, and a broad nose. I’m a product of the sixties. I know what discrimination and racism feels like. White folk may not, but I do. But to feel the oppression from my own race is a lot worse.

What Black America needs to understand is fags don’t grow on trees. We are not freaks of nature. The reason heterosexuals call homosexuality a lifestyle choice is because they have life all confused. Being gay is not a lifestyle choice – living gay is. When homosexuals choose to live a lie, the down low phenomenon is then created. African American women vehemently detest the down low that has manifested due to the homophobic society we live in. If women don’t want a marriage built on deception they should stop ostracizing men who choose not to live a lie. If men were accepted for who they are, then they wouldn’t have a reason to hide behind a wife and children. Brokeback Mountain may have been a love story, but it is also a story about two men who were forced to live a lie. Married black men are also having sex with men on the down low, but they are not having secret rendezvous on mountain tops once or twice a year.

I no longer want my silence to be confused with shame. I have one man that I have been with for almost 10 years, my “significant brutha.” Once upon a time African Americans could not marry and black folk were prohibited from marrying white folk. I happened to be born during a time of struggle, but this is just one moment in time. Everything must change. The world is not flat or straight.

Brad Pitt should take the Hudson role, he is looking for a gay role, and this could be it.

It's great that he feels so professionally comfortable taking on another "gay" role. Perhaps things in Hollywood are finally changing? If so, it's about time. Maybe after the success of 'Brokeback' more actors will take on roles with gay themed storylines without fear of ruining their careers.

Heath Ledger is beautiful. I think he was great in Brokeback Mountain. He gave it a certaine edge to it. I'm glad he's more comfortable on playing gay roles. I can't wait to see this movie. Hopefully we'll get to see more of him. =D

Haven't we seen the AIDS movies enough. Please not another movie about AIDS. I mean, I know we need awareness about AIDS but not another movie about it.

Rock,
He was just about to start working on Dynasty,It was on location at the Big House, that's what we called it. Heather Locklear was to play Rocks daughter. The house was just south of San Francisco,Miss Big Valley, called it FOLEEO...............ROCK came out of his trailer SMOKING,he was always smoking. This time he was coughing a lot and spitting up blood often. He need to kiss Heather in the up and comming scene. The under the breath word with the cast and crew was he had the A word or something. As the secne started she turned he cheek and he kissed it. No not that cheek. Linda came into the scene, she hates smoking,Rocks cigarette was hidden in his hand.
Though Linda did put up with Miss Stanwyck's smoking on the Big Valley set.
The scene went well,Rock was coughing over and over. GET HIM SOME WATER........ John F. was in in next scene,he is doing good at 88 now. John a long time smoker, had stopped years before. Said to Rock can you put it out for the next scene.................Rock said who is the guest star here anyway.
He walked off the set.............shooting went on without him. He contract said
he could smoke on the set. Rock was shooting for only nine days, with a repeat in the fall. Fall came and Rock was gone.
Note: when he was out with friends........the wood about gay men was Oh, he is musical. Rock always liked a hard ass to fuck, younger guys under 35. Brown hair was his turn on. Two or three a day. His guys where always out looking, they picked the guys....... opening line to the guys wanna meat Rock A lot of them where hustlers, off of Santa Monica. The best place to find them was right in front of The Hollywood Forever Cem.
After a cocktail and a smoke Rock would be ready for another

luster, you need a lesson in english grammer, dude! for example, you said: "I haven't seen no straight male playin' gay roles..." i haven't see no??? man! it should have read, "i have not seen any..."

aside from that annoyance, i must say kudos to heath! i have worked with this wonderful actor in the past. he is very secure with his bisexuality that he can play men who identifies himself in a multitude of ways and be believable. now, that's an actor for you! he's a man's man.
