A Moving Experience

I know, you think I've been fooling around on you and playing the field, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I've been here at the computer dealing with server madness. A few months ago I started having problems with Queer Day's host timing out while trying to publish. As the weeks went on it just grew worse and worse until early last week when I couldn't even log into Movable Type, my publishing system. A few times I did manage to get in late at night and did a test post just to see if it would publish and a couple of times it got through, only to shut down afterwards. I've been telling Mr. Tech Support here, Jamison, about it for awhile and he looked at it last week and was amazed. "You've actually been trying to keep Queer Day going in this mess?" Needless to say it was time to move.

What I needed was an affordable quality host that was Movable Type friendly, cool with dynamic page publishing, and not all freaked out about hosting a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Web site. Piece a cake, right? Wrong. There were a number of super Movable Type friendly hosts that couldn't handle dynamic page publishing, and the dynamic page publishing host that wouldn't host Movable Type. As for the queer issue, a lot of web hosting companies have adult content policies and while Queer Day certainly isn't pornographic, there are those out there who think this is an adult site. People like 2M Hosting who sent this *cough* thoughtful reply, "We donot host sites that contains adult materials or contains any thing that refers to other adult materials sites or even talks about them." At least they emailed me back. A numer of businesses never even responded.

My search, however, finally came to fruition. I wanted an affordable quality host, and within minutes of emailing Affordable Quality Hosting I got the nicest email back from Simon Vincent. Did you know they even install Movable Type for you for free, including updates? I'm completely blown away by the level of customer service, affordability and, well, quality. They're certaining living up to their name. And while I was waiting for things to propogate (for the web address to change to the new location) I decided to hammer out a new and better redesign. I actually had more time than I would have thought.

On not one, but TWO separate occasions, after Queer Day relocated to my beloved new AQHost, the site wound up propogating back to hell host. To put it quite nicely, the freakin bastards wouldn't let me go. Out and back and out and back and then finally home for good, I've moved in and threw up some new decorations and I think the place looks great. *heavy sigh of relief* Watch for the return of previously disbanded and even some new tech features now that I'm living on the right side of the tracks. It's so good to have found a real home.

Note: Recent comments were lost in transition and the personals are currrently down and will be up and running soon. Apologies for the inconvenience.
