Daniel Fetty's brutal murder results in plea agreement
The brutal murder of Daniel Fetty in Ohio is a story that has broken my heart twice - once simply due to his death, twice because the mainstream and gay press have virtually ignored the horrific crime. Three men beat Fetty with bricks, boards and bottles, stripped him naked and threw his body in a dumpster last October. Juanita Meek, Fetty's mother, said in court to Martin Baxter, one of the accused, "You put out his both his eyes, broke his nose, knocked out his teeth, broke his Adam's apple, broke his neck, broke all but one of his ribs and punctured his heart and lungs."
Fetty's sexual orientation is part of the reason family and friends believe he was murdered. Under his plea agreement Baxter, 29, will serve life in prison, eligible for parole after 20 years. He will also spend fours years in prison on one count of tampering with evidence. >Meek said, "I am satisfied with the sentences, even though it would be better if they get the needle. No one needs to die like that, no matter what they do in their lives," she said. "I'm going to take this as far as it can go. The more the courts can give them (those who commit hate crimes), the better. Two hundred years and a needle is not good enough." (Thanks Jay)
