Transsexual MP Georgina Beyer attacked by the Homer Simpsons?
The office of Queer Day's favorite transsexual New Zealand elected official, Georgina Beyer was attacked when vandals, apparently protesting against the controversial Foreshore and Seabed Act, smashed her Wairarapa office window with a message-laden brick. Attached to the brick was a warning message to Maori Affairs Minister Parekura Horomia. It said: "Parekura, sell out, we have not forgotten." An email circulating from an unidentified group calling itself "The Homer Simpsons" claimed there was a nationally co-ordinated attack aimed at all offices of Maori electorate MPs who voted for the act, yet none of the other Maori electorate offices were vandalized, only Beyer's.
It's the first time in six years that there had been any vandalism directed at Ms Beyer's Wairarapa electorate office. With less than a week until the general election, Beyer said she felt it would have been more constructive to express discontent at the ballot box "rather than my window. All this rather spurious act has done is add a cost to the taxpayer," she said.
