Transgendered hurricane evacuee arrested for using women's shower

Dominique Sharli'e Dominique, the transgendered Hurricane Katrina evacuee who was jailed for five days for using the women's restroom showers at Reed Arena, has been released after the county attorney declined to press charges. Dominique, formerly Arpollo Vicks, was arrested by Texas A&M University Police for criminal trespassing. She said she simply was trying to take a shower in the facility she felt most comfortable using, something of a no brainer, after spending five harrowing days living with little food and water on an Interstate 10 bridge.

Dominique's 16-year-old cousin, who also is transgendered, was arrested as well and was released to the custody of her older sister. "Right now I'm glad it's all over," Dominique said. "I'm not angry. I still have some animosity, but it's good to finally get a little support."
