Drag superstar Holly Woodlawn: I'm a cockroach
Legendary drag superstar Holly Woodlawn was on hand for the screening of "The Life and Times of Andy Warhol" at the Houston Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. "That whole era is gone, and it will never happen again, unfortunately - and sort of fortunately," she says. "I'm a cockroach. It's not symbolism or metaphor or whatever. I'm a cockroach because when the human race is wiped out, I'll probably be still living! I have no idea what I did."
"Everyone thinks (that time) was glamorous and fabulous and wonderful, and not all of it was, (but) when I look back, all I remember are the wonderful things that happened, the fabulous parties we went to." Woodlawn hopes her own autobiography, "A Lowlife in High Heels," makes it to film and she has some pointed opinions about casting. "I'm tired of straight people playing drag queens. Why can't drag queens play drag queens? They're talented, they're fabulous, they're gorgeous!" Woodlawn says.
