Zimbabwe athlete Samukeliso Sithole jailed for impersonating a woman
A Zimbabwean court jailed athlete Samukeliso Sithole, a triple jumper and runner who competed in several international sports events as a woman, on charges of impersonation and offending the dignity of a female athlete who undressed in his presence, unaware that he was actually male. Sithole was sentenced to four years imprisonment, although six months were suspended. Sithole told the court at his first appearance that he had both female and male organs and that he lived as a woman after consulting a traditional healer, although a medical examination revealed that he was male. According to The World News Sithole said he was desperate to earn a living and posed as a woman to do so.
