Salt Lake County gay partner benefits measure denied

Utah: Salt Lake County Council refused to become the first local government in Utah to offer domestic-partner benefits to gay employees, voting it down 5-4. "It pains me to send any message to someone if they take it that we don't value them," said a tearful Mark Crockett, but apparently not enough for him to vote for the measure.
