Gay marriage officially legalized in Spain

zapatero The Spanish Parliament made it official and legalized gay marriage today with the Congress of Deputies voting 187 in favor, 147 against and four abstentions. When the tally was announced gay and lesbian activists cheered, embraced, waved to lawmakers and blew them kisses. The law — sponsored by Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and his ruling Socialists with Zapatero saying, "We were not the first, but I am sure we will not be the last. After us will come many other countries, driven, ladies and gentlemen, by two unstoppable forces: freedom and equality."
