Alberta considers fighting Canadian gay marriage law
Alberta's justice minister Ron Stevens has refused to admit defeat in his battle against gay marriage, only to basically do so, more or less. He said Wednesday that the province is considering going to court to challenge Canadian Bill C-38, the federal legislation that was passed in Ottawa this week allowing for gay marriage in Canada. Stevens, however, did concede that his efforts would basically be moot because the federal legislation, when it becomes law, would take precedence over Alberta's Marriage Act anyway. The Act defines marriage as between a man and a woman. The new federal law amends that definition to "two persons." Stevens wants to challenge the law, and then says, "I know what the outcome will be."
