June Lo becomes New York City's first transsexual cop

june lo Queens police officer John Lo informed the New York Police Department that she'll be having a sex change, making her the first known transsexual cop in New York City - Officer June Lo. "Everyone's been very supportive, and I'm very happy about it. It's taken courage, but I'm very pleased," Lo told The Post. Lo made the announcement during a roll call of Queens Transit Task Force cops.

When John Lo was called she asked to address the assembled officers and said, "This is the way things are now. My name is June Lo. I've legally changed it from John to June.'" The cops, most of whom were aware that Lo was in the process of becoming female, burst into applause at the announcement by eight-year veteran. Their big question: "Can we still call you J-Lo?"
