First Romanian gay pride met with anger

bucharest About 500 Romanian gays marched through central Bucharest on Saturday as passers-by booed and shouted angrily. As gays and lesbians held banners reading "Out and proud" and "Stop prejudice, I love who I want," riot police protected the marchers from onlookers shouting, "Shame on you" and "Get out of Romania." 10 members of the far right organization "New Right" broke police ranks waving banners reading "Against homosexuality, for normality" and were detained by police. It was the first event of its kind in the formerly communist country.
