Kevin Sowyrda and WGBH's Emily Rooney battle it out
When WGBH's Emily Rooney did a segnment on Stop & Shop and Shaw's Supermarkets banning gay newspaper Bay Windows from their stores, she identified the hateful and responsible Article 8 Alliance only as a "concerned community group'' with no mention of their homophobic history, and she held a copy of Bay Windows like it was radioactive. Thus Bay Windows media columnist, Kevin Sowyrda, said, "Emily Rooney ... is uncomfortable with gay men and lesbians. If you believe in such a thing as gaydar then you can believe in such a thing as anti-gay gaydar, which is the ability to sense the elitists in our midst who are just as annoyed by gay politics as a bunch of rednecks out mudding.''
Rooney, upset her PC credibility had been sullied, fired off an email. "I read with some amusement your meandering diatribe regarding our Bay Windows segment. The parts that didn't amuse me were the gross inaccuracies. ... As for your sensing that I had some issues with your homosexuality . . . I didn't know you were gay.'' Um, he does write for the gay newspaper in question.
