Lawsuits to fight homophobia in high schools

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit yesterday on behalf of gay and lesbian students at Washington Preparatory High School in South Los Angeles who claim they were sexually harassed by students, teachers, security guards and administrators. One student said he and his boyfriend were caught kissing and a security guard and an administrator ridiculed them. A student identifying herself as bisexual said a teacher outed her to her parents. Meanwhile in Virginia, not gay Joseph Golden, a former Chancellor High School student, filed a lawsuit against the three students he says bullied him unmercifully during his high school years. The harassment was routinely homophobic in nature. Fredericksburg.com

And in Webb City, Missouri, the ACLU has come to the defense of a high school junior who was sent home twice from school for wearing t-shirts bearing gay pride messages. The principal cited concerns that other students may be offended by Brad Mathewson's T-shirt choices. Morons
