Howard Goldstein arrested for murdering roommate
Howard Goldstein, a Brooklyn man who cross-dresses, was arrested for beating his elderly roommate to death after an argument over the rent. 75-year-old Rahamin "Raymond" Sultan was believed to have been clubbed to death with a baseball bat. Goldstein, who answered the door in heels and make-up, initially told police he hadn't seen his roommate, but cops noticed a foul smell and found Sultan's body in a pool of blood on the living-room floor. Inside Goldstein's locked bedroom cops found walls plastered with pornographic pictures and portraits of Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, the Lubavitch sect leader. A door was covered with Vietnam War-era clippings, photographs of POWs and leaflets about MIA servicemen. New York Post
As he was being led from the 70th Precinct station house to Central Booking last night, Goldstein told reporters, "I'm not guilty.'' New York Times
Winner of the worst headline award goes to the New York Daily News for "Cross-dressed to kill." They do point out that Goldstein is a Hasidic Jew and that Sultan was a rabbi who had taken him into his home. New York Daily News
