Homophobic campaign against lesbian Julia Boseman backfires
Four years ago, when Julia Boseman successfully ran for a seat on the New Hanover Board of Commissioners in North Carolina, she didn't hide that she is a lesbian. Now she's a Democratic candidate for state Senate, looking to oust Woody White, a Wilmington Republican, and in the waning campaign days the Republican Party is focused on Boseman's sexual orientation and what she would push for as a legislator. "Julia Boseman Seeks To Be: The FIRST Openly Gay or Lesbian State Senator in North Carolina History," said one GOP flier sent out early this week. The strategy is backfiring.
The Star-News, White's hometown paper, withdrew their endorsement in an editorial titled, "Woody White dives in the gutter."
