Lesbian sues school over student taunts
An English lesbian who came out to her students in 1990 and left the school in 1998 after years of verbal abuse from the kids is suing the school district for loss of earnings due to personal injury. Shirley Pearce, now 56, says the name-calling left her mentally scarred and unable to work. Her attorneys suggest that's worth about $340,000. An employment tribunal, two appeals courts and the House of Lords have all ruled that she cannot sue the school under the Sex Discrimination Act.
